学术报告:离子束技术在聚变堆材料研究中的应用

报告摘要:

Fusion energy is considered as an ultimate solution to solve both energy shortage and global climate change challenges that may threaten the very existence of the mankind on this planet someday. After significant advances in magnetic confinement fusion concept, in particularplasma ignition, control and diagnostics in the recent decades, plasma facing material (PFM) thatholds the plasma “fire’ and must survive unprecedented harsh conditions (high particle flux, highheat flux and high energy neutron flux) appears to become a single most important challenge toachieve fusion energy. Tungsten (W) is considered as the principal plasma facing materialcandidate for first wall and divertor armor due to its high melting point, low hydrogen isotoperetention, and excellent resistance to sputtering. Ion beam methods have been established tofacilitate fundamental research on plasma-first wall interactions (PMI). In this talk, I aim to givea brief overview on how ion beam has been used as a tool to help advance first wall materialsresearch in fusion energy development. Specificexamples are presented to highlight importanceof ion beam characterization techniques in understanding deuterium retention and recovery in W,investigation of thermomechanical properties of ion beam damaged W, and research on novelnanocomposite materials design to delay or eliminate the formation of “fuzz“ nanostructure onW surface upon high flux helium ion implantation.
